Quebec Delegation in Mexico with Pauline Marois, Mexico City, Guadalajara, June 2013
Quebec , June 21, 2013 – The Premier of Quebec , Pauline Marois, accompanied by the Minister for Industrial Policy and Economic Development Bank of Canada , Elaine Zakaïb lead a trade and economic mission to Mexico , from 26 to June 29 A group of business people and leaders from sixty companies and organizations , and a dozen representatives of the research and higher education, will also take part .
The main purpose of this economic and trade mission , the first qu’effectueMme Marois goal is to consolidate and expand economic and institutional exchanges with this Latin American country which has excellent business prospects for Quebec. “The economic vitality and prosperity of Quebec passed by strengthening our relationships with key partners such as Mexico, a member of the North American Free Trade Agreement with which we multiplied the exchanges in the fields of economy , education and culture for more than three decades , “said the Prime Minister.
“Mexico is a very interesting market for many Quebec companies seeking new markets for their products or services , particularly in the most innovative sectors with high added value. This mission will be an opportunity for them to engage in discussions in order to realize strategic alliances or establishing new agreements , “said the minister on his side Zakaïb .
Quebec delegation will first visit to Guadalajara, capital of Jalisco state priority with which Quebec has signed a cooperation agreement in October 2009. The Prime Minister will head later in the capital , Mexico City, where she will meet with key political authorities of the federal government . Marois also act as a speaker at a luncheon that will focus on North American partnership Quebec Mexico.
In 2012, Mexico was the fifth global partner of Quebec and the first in Latin America, trade in goods between Canada and Mexico totaled $ 4.9 billion , up 11.2% compared to previous year. The number of Quebec companies that export to Mexico today has almost quadrupled since 2000.
